A feeling of nausea, sometimes accompanied by
vomiting, experienced by about 40% of all
astronauts during their first few days in
space. It is akin to travel sickness, and is
thought to be caused by confusion of the
body's balancing mechanism, located in the
inner ear, by weightlessness. The sensation
passes after a week or so as the body adapts.
